All bubbling with excitement in its preparation of the upcoming GV Summit, the GV in French [1] team decided to once and temporarily shed its respectable modesty, because it all of a sudden became aware that the sun never sets upon its members. Obviously, all members of the community do not buy every morning their baguette nor don a Basque beret under the skies of the «hexagon» (metropolitan France).

although Suzanne and Claire (editors) are based in France, we cover the five continents, from Europe: Netherlands, U.K., Italy, Spain… to Africa: Mali, Moroco… to Asia: Singapore, Japan… to Americas : Canada, Argentina…

Although we don't go ranting about it, GV French inspired new vocations and helped translators [2] have credits.
[3]And that Aboudlaye Bah [4], our pillar of wisdom, who tirelessly translates Advocacy, is shooting a film, where he impersonates a cardinal, and maybe, (in fiction) the first ever African pope ? As for Ivan, straight back from Argentina, he works for a NGO from… the Paris zoo ! Right above the primates’ quarters.

DO YOU KNOW THAT…
Fabienne is active in a Teachers’ Union, in Guadeloupe, Anne in England is running for charity marathon to raise money for cancer research. And that GV french has nurtured and helped along the toujours pas sage [5] internet training. Boukary [6] has since moved on to the Ministry of Education and looks after the digital library programs in Mali, training teachers. [7] Pauline, in Barcelona, knows about the magic cures against burns in Swiss white magic. And we were joined recently by an environment and hydrology engineer, along with a fair trade operator.
- of course, their work and commitment to translate for Global Voices, with all the underlying openness towards the planet and curiosity for its diversity, and sharing their skills and knowledge;
- individual initiatives to bring closer those communities who ignore one another although they live in neighbouring areas, such as the English- and French- speaking countries in Sub-Saharian Africa or the Carribean;
- ideas and suggestions which could be discussed at the Summit workshops, such as going IRL under a GV label, supporting grassroots initiatives…;
- sharing all of this and find new inspirations in the Babel-like encounters brought by the Summit.
